Rig Veda 1.1

मधुच्छन्दाः वैश्वामित्रः ऋषिः । गायत्रीच्छन्द्रः । अग्निर्देवता ॥

ॐ अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवमृत्विजम् । होतारं रत्नधातमम् ॥१॥
अग्निः पूर्वेभिरृषिभिरीड्यो नूतनैरुत । स देवाँ एह वक्षति ॥२॥
अग्निना रयिमश्नवत् पोषमेव दिवेदिवे । यशसं वीरवत्तमम् ॥३॥
अग्ने यं यज्ञमध्वरं विश्वतः परिभूरसि । स इद्देवेषु गच्छति ॥४॥
अग्निर्होता कविक्रतुः सत्यश्चित्रश्रवस्तमः । देवो देवेभिरा गमत् ॥५॥
यदङ्ग दाशुषे त्वमग्ने भद्रं करिष्यसि । तवेत् तत् सत्यमङ्गिरः ॥६॥
उप त्वाग्ने दिवेदिवे दोषावस्तर्धिया वयम् । नमो भरन्त एमसि ॥७॥
राजन्तमध्वराणां गोपामृतस्य दीदिविम् । वर्धमानं स्वे दमे ॥८॥
स नः पितेव सूनवेऽग्ने सूपायनो भव । सचस्वा नः स्वस्तये ॥९॥
ॐ अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवमृत्विजम् । होतारं रत्नधातमम् ॥१॥

Summary
1. I adore that Agni, who stands in front of the yaGYa, the Divine One, the Knower of Right, the Offerer/ Summoner, and the Emitter of Brilliance.
2. Agni is adored by Seers both of the Old and the new. He brings the Gods (Divinity) here.
3. By Agni, one shall get prosperity, fame and the greatest of heroism, which shall increase day by day.
4. Agni, you encircle on all sides this yaGYa, which is swift and steady and which indeed goes among the Gods.
5. May Agni, the Offerer/ Summoner, the Seer, the Discerner, the best of Truth Perceivers, come here along with the other Divinities.
6. Whatever indeed, the Offering be, You O Agni, bless. That is your truth indeed O Agni (Angiras).
7. O Agni, dispeller of darkness ! Illuminator/ Inciter ! Everyday we approach you with our salutations.
8. (Our salutations to You) Agni, who are the ruler of Eternity, the guardian of the Right, the Shining One, to the one who increases (by spreading out) in his house.
9. Agni, be as approachable to us, like a father to his son, be with us for our welfare.

ॐ अग्निमीळे पुरोहितं यज्ञस्य देवमृत्विजम् । होतारं रत्नधातमम् ॥१॥

अग्निमीळे = Agni, I adore or Agni, I offer prayers to Agni
पुरोहितं = Front Stander
यज्ञस्य =  Of yaGYa
देवमृत्विजम् = देवम् + RRitvijam
देवम् = Divine, that which Shines
ऋत् = Truth
विजम् = Shaking/ pulsating/ vibrating
RRitvijaM = One who pulsates with Right, the Knower of Right
होतारं = One whi offers, sprinkles
रत्नधातमम् = ratna + dhAtamam
ratna = that which sparkles/ that which has brriliance/ gems
dhA = give/ emit

अग्निः पूर्वेभिरृषिभिरीड्यो नूतनैरुत ।
स देवाँ एह वक्षति ॥२॥

Agni is adored by Seers both of the Old and the new. He brings the Gods or Divinities here.

अग्निना रयिमश्नवत् पोषमेव दिवेदिवे ।
यशसं वीरवत्तमम् ॥३॥

By Agni, one shall get prosperity, fame and the greatest of heroism, which shall increase day by day.

अग्निना = by Agni
रयिम = prosperity
aश्नवत् = shall get
पोषमेव = increasing
दिवेदिवे = day by day
यशसं = fame
वीरवत्तमम् = vIra + uttamam

अग्ने यं यज्ञमध्वरं विश्वतः परिभूरसि ।
स इद्देवेषु गच्छति ॥४॥

Agni, you encircle on all sides this yaGYa, which is swift and steady and which indeed goes among the Gods.

adhvaraM = a + dhu + araM
dhu (from dhU) = shaking, trembling
adhu = steady
ara = swift, fast / also the spoke of a wheel, radius
adhvaraM might mean something that is swift and steady, or alternatively stteady radial path, or steady movements, or in a sense continuity or eternity

अग्निर्होता कविक्रतुः सत्यश्चित्रश्रवस्तमः ।
देवो देवेभिरा गमत् ॥५॥

May Agni, the Offerer/ Summoner, the Seer, the Discerner, the best of Truth Perceptors, come here along with the other Divinities.

सत्यश्चित्रश्रवस्तमः = satyaH + chitra + shravastamaH
chitra = excellent/ clear

shravastamaH = shravaH + tama
the best of Perceptors, i.e one who is capable of perceiving Truths from a different plane

similar to uttama = ud + tama

यदङ्ग दाशुषे त्वमग्ने भद्रं करिष्यसि ।
तवेत् तत् सत्यमङ्गिरः ॥६॥

Whatever indeed, the Offering be, You O Agni, bless. That is your truth ineed O Agni (Angiras).

यद् = which/ what
अङ्ग = Indeed, true, well
यदङ्ग = yad + a~Nga = whatever
दाशुषे = to/for the Offering
त्वमग्ने = you, O Agni
भद्रं = blessed , auspicious , fortunate , prosperous , happy
करिष्यसि ।
tat tava satyam it a~NgiraH

उप त्वाग्ने दिवेदिवे दोषावस्तर्धिया वयम् ।
नमो भरन्त एमसि ॥७॥

agne doShAvastaH ! vayaM divedive namo bharanta upa tvA A imasi |

O Agni, dispeller of darkness ! Illuminator/ Inciter ! Everyday we approach you with our salutations.

उप
त्वाग्ने = tu + agne or tvA + agne
tu = pray! I beg , do , now , then
दिवेदिवे = Day by day
दोषावस्तर्धिया = doshA + vastaH + dhiyA
doShA = night/ darkness
vastaH = to hurt, to waste, i.e., night or darkness dispeller
dhiyA = iluminator
वयम् = we
नमो = salutation
भरन्त एमसि = bharantaH + A + imasi
bharantaH = carrying
upa tvA A imasi = near you we come

राजन्तमध्वराणां गोपामृतस्य दीदिविम् ।
वर्धमानं स्वे दमे ॥८॥

sve dame = sva idame or su ve dame
dIdivim = one who shines
rAjan tam adhvarANAM gopaM RRitasya

(Our salutations to You) Agni, who are the ruler of Eternity, the guardian of the Right, the Shining One, to the one who increases (by spreading out) in his house.

su - to urge, impel, bring forth
ve - to weave, interweave, cover, web-ify
dam - to tame, subdue, to make tranquil (verb); house (noun)

स नः पितेव सूनवेऽग्ने सूपायनो भव ।
सचस्वा नः स्वस्तये ॥९॥

Agni, be as approachable to us, like a father to his son, be with us for our welfare.

स = He
नः = To us
पितेव = Like a Father
सूनवेऽग्ने = sUnave + agne
sUnu = son thus to his son
सूपायनो = sU + pAyanaH = good + approachable/ accessible
भव = be
सचस्वा = sach + svA
sach = attached to/ associated with
svA = one's own people
नः = to us
स्वस्तये = good/ welfare

The Adya Stotram / আদ্যা স্তোত্র / आद्या स्तोत्रम् , which is very popular in West Bengal, is a hymn in tribute to Adya Ma.  It has 20 shlokas in Sanskrit written in very simple language and talks about the greatness of Adya Ma and the benefits of understanding and reciting the stotram. The benefits of daily recitation of the Stotram are: Protection from death, sickness and fear Conceiving, for those women who are childless Protection from any danger during travel especially by water Protection during wars Protection during troubled times Receiving the same amount of blessing as going on holy pilgrimage Adya Ma is regarded as the physical form (manifestation) of Adya Shakti. Jagaddhatri Stotram and Jagadhatri Puja

  Jagaddhatri also spelled as Jagadhatri (Devnagri: जगद्धात्री, Bengali: জগদ্ধাত্রী) literally means She Who Holds the World or the Protector of the World . She is a form of Devi Durga. She is highly revered in West Bengal, especially in Chandernagore (my ancestral home) which has the biggest celebration of Jagaddhatri Puja in India.
