Traditionally Sama Veda Samhita is believed to have had a thousand schools (shAkhAs). Of all these recension, as late as 1930's only three schools were extant:
a. The Kauthuma school of Bengal and Gujarat
b. The Jaiminiya school of Karnataka region
c. The Ranayaniya school of Maharashtra
