दुर्गा आपदुद्धाराष्टकस्तोत्रं

नमस्ते शरण्ये शिवे सानुकम्पे नमस्ते जगद्व्यापिके विश्वरूपे |
नमस्ते जगद्वन्द्यपादारविन्दे नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||१||
नमस्ते जगच्चिन्त्यमानस्वरूपे नमस्ते महायोगिविज्ञानरूपे |
नमस्ते नमस्ते सदानन्द रूपे नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||२||
अनाथस्य दीनस्य तृष्णातुरस्य भयार्तस्य भीतस्य बद्धस्य जन्तोः |
त्वमेका गतिर्देवि निस्तारकर्त्री नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||३||
अरण्ये रणे दारुणे शुत्रुमध्ये जले सङ्कटे राजग्रेहे प्रवाते |
त्वमेका गतिर्देवि निस्तार हेतुर्नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||४||
अपारे महदुस्तरेऽत्यन्तघोरे विपत् सागरे मज्जतां देहभाजाम् |
त्वमेका गतिर्देवि निस्तारनौका नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||५||
नमश्चण्डिके चण्डोर्दण्डलीलासमुत्खण्डिता खण्डलाशेषशत्रोः |
त्वमेका गतिर्विघ्नसन्दोहहर्त्री नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||६||
त्वमेका सदाराधिता सत्यवादिन्यनेकाखिला क्रोधना क्रोधनिष्ठा |
इडा पिङ्गला त्वं सुषुम्ना च नाडी नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||७||
नमो देवि दुर्गे शिवे भीमनादे सदासर्वसिद्धिप्रदातृस्वरूपे |
विभूतिः सतां कालरात्रिस्वरूपे नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||८||
शरणमसि सुराणां सिद्धविद्याधराणां मुनिदनुजवराणां व्याधिभिः पीडितानाम् |
नृपतिगृहगतानां दस्युभिस्त्रासितानां त्वमसि शरणमेका देवि दुर्गे प्रसीद ||९||

नमस्ते शरण्ये शिवे सानुकम्पे नमस्ते जगद्व्यापिके विश्वरूपे |

नमस्ते - नमस् + ते - Salutations to you
शरण्ये [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of शरण्या ] - One who affords shelter, protection or defence
शिवे [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of शिवा ] - auspicious , propitious , gracious , favourable , benign , kind ,
benevolent
सानुकम्पे [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of सानुकम्पा ] -  full of pity , compassionate , tender
जगद्व्यापिके [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of जगद्व्यापिका] - omni-present
विश्वरूपे [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of विश्वरूपा] -  wearing all forms , manifold
जगद्वन्द्यपादारविन्दे [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of Compound जगद्+वन्द्य+पाद+अरविन्द] - the Universally Revered lotus-footed one
जगत्तारिणि [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of जगत्तारिणी] - savior of the world
त्राहि [ Imperative Mood 2nd Person singular] - May you protect
दुर्गे [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of दुर्गा] - the inaccessible or terrific goddess

नमस्ते जगच्चिन्त्यमानस्वरूपे नमस्ते महायोगिविज्ञानरूपे |

जगच्चिन्त्यमानस्वरूपे - in the from of one who thinks about the world
चिन्त्य = to be considered or reflected or meditated upon
चिन्त्यमान् = one who thinks (from chintyamat nom. sing)
महायोगिविज्ञानरूपे [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of महायोगिविज्ञानरूपा ] - one who is a great ascetic and knowledgeable
सदानन्दरूपे [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of सदानन्दरूपा] - one who is in state of Perpetual Bliss

Salutations to you, O you who ever thinks about the world !
Salutations to you, O you who are a great ascetic and knowledgeable !
Salutations to you, Salutations to you who are in state of Perpetual Bliss !
Salutations to you, O Savior of the World, may you protect (us) O Durga !

अनाथस्य दीनस्य तृष्णातुरस्य भयार्तस्य भीतस्य बद्धस्य जन्तोः |
त्वमेका गतिर्देवि निस्तारकर्त्री नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||३||

अनाथस्य [अनाथ] = of an orphan
दीनस्य [दीन] = of the wretched
तृष्णातुरस्य = of the thirsty
भयार्तस्य = of the distressed
भीतस्य = of the scared
बद्धस्य = of the bound
जन्तोः (जन्तु) = of men
देवि - [सम्बोधनम् (Vocative) of देवी] - goddess
त्वमेका गतिर्देवि - You are the only refuge O Goddess
निस्तार = deliverance

Of orphans, the wretched, the thirsty, the distressed,
the scared, the bound, and men,
you are the only refuge O Goddess !
Salutations to you, O Bestower of Deliverance !
Salutations to you, O Savior of the World, may you protect (us) O Durga !

अरण्ये रणे दारुणे शुत्रुमध्ये जले सङ्कटे राजग्रेहे प्रवाते |
त्वमेका गतिर्देवि निस्तार हेतुर्नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||४||

अरण्ये - in a forest
रणे - during a war
दारुणे - harsh and cruel
शुत्रुमध्ये - amidst enemies
जले - in water
सङ्कटे - in danger
राजग्रेहे -
प्रवाते - in windy conditions


अपारे महदुस्तरेऽत्यन्तघोरे विपत् सागरे मज्जतां देहभाजाम् |
त्वमेका गतिर्देवि निस्तारनौका नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||५||

अपारे -
महदुस्तरे - in  times of great difficulty
विपत्सागरे - during oceans fo trouble


नमश्चण्डिके चण्डोर्दण्डलीलासमुत्खण्डिता खण्डलाशेषशत्रोः |
त्वमेका गतिर्विघ्नसन्दोहहर्त्री नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||६||

नमश्चण्डिके - salutations to Chandika
चण्डोर्दण्डलीलासमुत्खण्डिता


त्वमेका सदाराधिता सत्यवादिन्यनेकाखिला क्रोधना क्रोधनिष्ठा |
इडा पिङ्गला त्वं सुषुम्ना च नाडी नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||७||

सत्यवादिन्यनेकाखिला - सत्यवादिनी + अनेका + अखिला
अखिल - mf(आ)n. without a gap , complete , whole
क्रोधना - inclined to wrath , passionate , angry
इडा, पिङ्गला , सुषुम्ना , नाडी - vessels in the body according to the योग philosophy are the chief passages of breath and air
पिङ्गला - the right of 3 tubular vessels

नमो देवि दुर्गे शिवे भीमनादे सदासर्वसिद्धिप्रदातृस्वरूपे |
विभूतिः सतां कालरात्रिस्वरूपे नमस्ते जगत्तारिणि त्राहि दुर्गे ||८||

भीमनादे
भीमनाद - a terrific sound, one sending forth a terrific sound, a lion
सदासर्वसिद्धिप्रदातृस्वरूपे from ( सदा + सर्वसिद्धि + प्रदातृ + स्वरूपे) - the constant bestower of prosperity and bliss
विभूतिः - f. manifestation of might , great power , superhuman power (consisting of eight faculties
, especially attributed to शिव , but supposed also to be attainable by human beings through worship of that deity , viz. अणिमन् , the power of becoming as minute as an atom ; लघिमन् , extreme lightness ; प्रा*प्ति , attaining or reaching anything [e.g. the moon with the tip of the finger] ; प्राकाम्य , irresistible will ; महिमन् , illimitable bulk ; ईशिता , supreme dominion ; वशिता , subjugating by magic ; and कामा*वसायिता , the suppressing all desires)
सतां - { g. pl. m. | g. pl. n. }[sat]- among the Real, among existence
कालरात्रिस्वरूपे - the night of all-destroying time , night of destruction at the end of the world (often
personified and identified with दुर्गा or with one of her शक्तिs)

Salutations to you, O Goddess, O Durga, O Auspicious One,
O Lioness, O Constant bestower of prosperity !

शरणमसि सुराणां सिद्धविद्याधराणां मुनिदनुजवराणां व्याधिभिः पीडितानाम् |

The Adya Stotram / আদ্যা স্তোত্র / आद्या स्तोत्रम् , which is very popular in West Bengal, is a hymn in tribute to Adya Ma.  It has 20 shlokas in Sanskrit written in very simple language and talks about the greatness of Adya Ma and the benefits of understanding and reciting the stotram. The benefits of daily recitation of the Stotram are: Protection from death, sickness and fear Conceiving, for those women who are childless Protection from any danger during travel especially by water Protection during wars Protection during troubled times Receiving the same amount of blessing as going on holy pilgrimage Adya Ma is regarded as the physical form (manifestation) of Adya Shakti. Adya Shakti is the primary supreme force of Nature and is regarded as the force essential to the existence of the other forces on Nature. She is worshiped in the form of Goddess Kali. Jagaddhatri Stotram and Jagadhatri Puja

  Jagaddhatri also spelled as Jagadhatri (Devnagri: जगद्धात्री, Bengali: জগদ্ধাত্রী) literally means She Who Holds the World or the Protector of the World . She is a form of Devi Durga. She is highly revered in West Bengal, especially in Chandernagore (my ancestral home) which has the biggest celebration of Jagaddhatri Puja in India. People come from all parts of India to Chandannagar to enjoy the amazing light works and show. Other places where the Puja is celebrated with gusto are Bhadreshwar, Hooghly, Rishra and Krishnanagar.
