Differences between Hinduism and Abrahamic Religions

differences between Hinduism and Abrahamic Religions
In this article I will analyze in-depth the differences between Hinduism and Abrahamic Religions.

Hinduism is a great religion producing saints and great people, whereas Christianity and Islam consistently produce morons, bigots and terrorists. The best Christians are those who have never read the Bible or gone to the Church. The best Muslim is he who has never read the Koran or done the Azan.

As a Hindu myself, I always found this Christian/ Muslim concept of "religious tolerance" very odd and disturbing. Hindus are taught to accept and embrace every person. Hindus do not kill people in the name of religion like Muslim terrorists. Hindus do not criticize or make fun of any other religion. Hindus do not try to convert anyone like Christian Missionaries. Yet people call Hindus "facists" and what not, and still talk about the non-existent so-called caste discrimination which is largely a myth.
  • Why does Christianity produce so many bigots and pompous jerks?
  • Why does Islam produce so many terrorist?
  • Why do Muslims have no respect for women and why do Islamic nations have such poor and abysmal human rights?
  • Why are Roman Catholic states like Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Greece etc poorer than Protestant countries like UK, Germany and US?
  • Why do Hindus produce so many philosophers and saints?
  • How has Hinduism survived for 5000 years?
  • Or to summarize, why does Hinduism rock, whereas Christianity and Islam suck?
In this article, I will try to address all these points by highlighting the differences between Hinduism and Abrahamic Religions.

Hinduism
Hinduism is the religion of majority people in India. Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism etc are all derivatives of Hinduism, each having followed their own growth trajectory. At one time, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and south-east Asia were completely Hindu-Buddhist in nature. With the advent of converting Christians and murdering Muslims, today only 80% of India alone is Hindu and 60% of south-east Asian countries are Buddhist.

Hinduism is the oldest true religion of the world.

Abrahamic Religions
Abrahamic Religions are those which originated in the deserts of middle-east from Abraham - Judaism, Christianity and Islam, the last two of which have been the most destructive religions in the history of mankind.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam are backward and primitive religions and products of middle-eastern barbarism.

Definition of God

In Abrahamic faiths, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, God (1)
  1. is personal, male, separate from his creation and with strong likes and dislikes.
  2. greatly dislikes any human being who does not acknowledge him as the only true God.
  3. In fact he even has decreed that any such human being will burn eternally in hell, unless he officially (through a small ritual) joins the ‘true religion’.
As is obvious, this is a stupid definition of God and a product of ignorance which is common in Muslims and Christians, and this is the source of all Terrorism in the world today. We cannot have a dictator God in this modern day and age.

In Hinduism, there are many shades of God:
  1. gods - deities/ representation of forces/ ideas, which serve a specific purpose
  2. God - somewhat monotheistic/ personal God
  3. Brahman or Tat (That) - Supreme All-Pervading Truth/ The Core Essence of Existence
Thus in Hinduism, " one invisible, conscious essence is the only true ‘thing’ permeating everything in this apparent universe and beyond. They called it Brahman (from big, expanding) or simply Tat (that) and postulated that it was eternal, infinite, unchanging, true, aware, blissful and the invisible basis of everything including our own person. So basically, we are that Brahman. Our essence is That. Only, we are born blind to this truth and the purpose of life is to realize it." (1)

Brahman or Tat - All Pervading Reality in Hinduism
As per Pushti-Marg (2),
"Hindus believe in an absolutely omnipresent, omnipotent God that is neither jealous nor feels threatened by “other gods”.  All aspects of divinity are aspects of the self same GOD and hence no jealousy or competition !  There is no satan waiting to bait God - if there was, wouldn't that "satan" be challenging the omnipotentness of GOD ?  We believe the universe to be a "play" of the divine and hence all the good and bad we see are characters in the divine play. "

Differences between Hinduism and Abrahamic Religions
Prophet

Christians and Muslims have their Prophets - Jesus and Mohammed - who apparently had "direct contact" with their Gods and through them downloaded God's message. The word of the Prophet is considered to be core tenets of the religion.
  1. Nobody can question or critically analyze the Prophets message. You can and will be put to death.
  2. Nobody can say, I don't give a fuck. You can and will be put to death.
  3. Nobody can draw a cartoon. You can and will be put to death.
  4. Nobody can ask for proof.  You can and will be put to death.
In other words, in Abrahamic Religions, and especially in Islam, you have NO choice. You HAVE to believe the Messenger's message and you HAVE to accept that religion - else you can and will be put to death.

In Hindus there are and there have been no Prophets.

From time immemorial Rishis and Munis, learned people, each independently or in groups explored and discovered different truths. These Truths were presented to the public and ONLY after critique and proper experimental verification, did somebody's message gain acceptance. Hindusim is like a huge reporsitory of Truth, where the Collective Spirituality of Hindus are stored, and preserved and built-upon bit by bit.

The problems with a Prophet based religion are  manifold:
  1. What if some Prophet is a pedophile?
  2. What if a Prophet is a crazed genocidal maniac who justifies his killings through made-up God messages?
  3. What if a Prophet is a moron?
  4. What if a Prophet is a sex-addict who makes up God-messages to justify his sexual depravity?
  5. What if a Prophet is homosexual and says that having normal sex is against God's will?
A Prophet based region, like the desert Abrahamic faiths have all these issues.

Human Intelligence and Science versus Religion
Abrahamic Religions like Christianity and Islam have no regard for human intelligence.
Their Holy Books like Bible and Koran make some outrageous claims, which apparently we must accept or else they will kill us.

As Maria Wirth says, "The Abrahamic religions come as a fixed ‘belief system’, which means that blind belief is required in dogmas, which have no chance to be verified."

Thus In Christianity and Islam, there is a marked difference between religion and Science. Because of the dogmatic ways in which their regions are structured, you have to be either a strong-believer (like Bible thumpers of Texas or Arab extremists) or you have to reject those religions outright like many Western scientists do. If you do reject, then you are dubbed an Atheist and you will most likely be persecuted or killed, especially in Islam.
Hinduism is an experiential religion. A Hindu DOES NOT have to accept anything unless he is fully satisfied after having EXPERIMENTALLY verifying its core tenets. In fact it is perfectly okay to be a non-believer and skeptic within the Hindu fold. They are not killed, they are in fact respected and listened to attentively.

Again quoting Maria Wirth (1), "Many in the west feel oppressed by mandatory belief in dogmas, and leave the Church. They opt for atheism as for them anything metaphysical is intrinsically connected with the Church. Some, mostly educated people discover Buddhism. Hinduism unfortunately is not an option for most, as it is projected to be weird. Only few discover its value and stand by it, like Julia Roberts did."
There is no such dicothomy in Hinduism. Some of the greatest Indian Hindu scientists are devout Hindus, and there is nothing remotely odd about that.

  5. I am a Hindu but I am very very offended with what you wrote. Just because you follow a certain religion does not mean that you have to or all allowed to shame another religion.
You walk around with your MBA stamped to your forehead yet you talk about religion as if you're a saint. Its a person's perspective how he interprets his religion. You talk about Hinduism being all cherries and blossoms when its not. As sad as it makes me, at least I have the guts to accept that my religion is not perfect but i love and respect it and am not insecure enough to have to make people of another religion feel bad about it. Hope this will be a bit of an eye opener for the gentleman who wrote all of that poison and the people who actually think that they are making good use of their time by reading this.

  11. Excellent Article. There are going to be different opinions. But truth remains. People who have not studied dharma first hand find faults. Long subjugation and westernised education also cause confusion.

Jagaddhatri Stotram and Jagadhatri Puja

Jagaddhatri also spelled as Jagadhatri (Devnagri: जगद्धात्री, Bengali: জগদ্ধাত্রী) literally means She Who Holds the World or the Protector of the World . She is a form of Devi Durga. She is highly revered in West Bengal, especially in Chandernagore (my ancestral home) which has the biggest celebration of Jagaddhatri Puja in India. People come from all parts of India to Chandannagar to enjoy the amazing light works and show. Other places where the Puja is celebrated with gusto are Bhadreshwar, Hooghly, Rishra and Krishnanagar. Jagaddhatri Puja in Chandannagar The origins of Jagaddhatri Puja in Chandannagar date back to as early as 1750.
